CommonPlaces CEO Ben Bassi Presents at the SIPA Mid-Year Marketing Conference

Tue, 12/23/2008 - 5:04pm

CommonPlaces’ Ben Bassi and VP of Marketing Sherrin Bull presented at the Specialized Information Publishers Association’s conference on the subject of Social Media technologies.

Hampstead, NH (PRWEB) December 23, 2008 — CommonPlaces CEO Ben Bassi and VP of Marketing Sherrin Bull presented Wednesday, December 10th at the Specialized Information Publishers Association’s “Mid-Year Marketing Conference” in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their presentation was entitled “Leveraging Social Media to Drive Traffic,” and offered opportunities and strategies for specialized information publishers to promote and distribute their content on the social Web.

This year’s SIPA conference was titled “Gain. Market. Share.” and was focused on strategies specialized information publishers could implement to increase website traffic, conversions and sales. Citing statistics that three of four adults in the US use social tools on the Web, and that B2B social media will be a $4.6 Billion industry by 2013, Bassi and Bull strongly emphasized the importance of getting involved with social media in the coming year.

Success in the social media realm depends on quality content that will engage your audience. But as Bassi and Bull were quick to point out, this is the strength of specialized information publishers–regular, high-quality content. The presenters encouraged the audience to view the social Web as an opportunity rather than a threat. The quality content they were already creating was a big step towards their social media success.

The next step is to “open the gates,” as Bassi said, and the two offered a number of ways to do this: leveraging technologies such as RSS, forums and wikis; encouraging rating, commenting and reviewing on your site; and submitting content to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Yahoo! Buzz and Reddit were just a few.

There is no doubt that social media is playing an increasing role in business, and that more and more marketers are viewing it as an indispensable part of their marketing campaigns. A recent study by Cone found that 93% of Americans who use social media technologies on a regular basis expect companies to have a presence on these sites.

From the SIPA website: “SIPA is the international trade association dedicated to advancing the interests of for-profit subscription newsletter publishers and specialized-information services.” This year’s Marketing Conference marked the 25th year of the event, and featured over 20 presentations from industry leaders and marketing strategists.

Ben Bassi is happy to supply anyone interested with a copy of his presentation. If you would like to request a copy, he can be contacted at ben (at) commonplaces.com. To invite Ben Bassi to speak at your business event, please contact the CommonPlaces Marketing team.

Ben to Speak at SIPA Next Month in Las Vegas

Wed, 11/05/2008 - 3:36pm

Our CEO Ben Bassi is slated to appear as a panelist at the Specialized Information Publishers Association’s (SIPA) Mid-Year Marketing Conference in Las Vegas next month.  The Conference runs from December 8 – 10, and is being held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Ben is scheduled to appear on a panel of three for the presentation “How You Can Leverage Online Tools To Create Some Serious Marketing Buzz,” scheduled for the morning of December 10th. The session’s description from the SIPA site:

“The Internet has created an ‘information marketplace’ with constantly evolving delivery methods and marketing strategies. With a variety of resources available, publishers face the challenge of getting information in front of the right audience at the right time—when they are ready to act. With the rise of user-generated content, search options and social networks on the web, there are seemingly limitless and often overwhelming opportunities for you to engage your audience.”

Ben’s specific topic is “to show you how to leverage social media to drive traffic and conversions, build an online following and even convert your visitors into evangelists who will promote your content for you.” Ben will be appearing at this session with Andy Black, Marketing Director of Convera, and RD Whitney, CEO of Caroo Media USA.

If you would like to attend this and other great learning sessions on the topic of Internet Marketing, register today. Those who sign up before November 10th will receive special early bird pricing.

Greenopolis.com Sponsors Drupalcon Boston 2008

Mon, 03/31/2008 - 10:03am

Greenopolis.com (Beta) was featured as a Gold Sponsor of Drupalcon Boston 2008, a gathering of over 800 Drupal professionals.

Boston, MA, March 3, 2008
-  Greenopolis.com (Beta) was featured as a Gold Sponsor of Drupalcon Boston 2008. Over 800 Web professionals gathered at the four day event to discuss the future of Drupal and Web content creation. The convention is held twice yearly in different cities around the globe.

Greenopolis.com (Beta) is an educational and collaborative “green” social networking website commissioned by Waste Management and developed by CommonPlaces e-Solutions, Inc. The site was created entirely with Drupal.

So what is Drupal? According to drupal.org, “Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website.” Drupal is also open-source, which means that it can be modified and improved by anyone that uses it.

“It was great to see all of these members of the Drupal community come together in one place and freely exchange ideas. We all left with improved skills and fresh ideas to create better websites and better serve our clients,” said Seth Cohn, a Senior Internet Engineer at CommonPlaces.

Drupal places a large emphasis on user interaction, and facilitates the creation of Blogs, polls, forums, and other user-created content. As a site based on social interaction, Greenopolis.com (Beta) puts all of these features to good use. The result is a very rich user experience that is both educational and fun.
