CommonPlaces' Chris Pliakas Presents at DrupalCon DC 2009
March 10, 2009 -- Chris Pliakas, Internet Engineer at CommonPlaces, delivered a presentation last Thursday at DrupalCon DC 2009 on Search Lucene API, the Drupal module he created. DrupalCon is a biannual gathering of Drupal professionals; this spring's event was held in Washington, DC.
Drupal, a popular web content management system, is free and open source. Because of this, the success of Drupal depends upon the contributions of its community of supporters. Fortunately, Drupal is blessed with an energetic, rapidly growing community of developers. CommonPlaces is always pleased when it can contribute to the Drupal project as a part of that community.
Besides being a Platinum Sponsor of DrupalCon DC 2009, CommonPlaces' most recent contribution to the Drupal project is Search Lucene API, a powerful search module that CommonPlaces' Chris Pliakas developed. This module allows for full support of the Apache Lucene project within a Drupal site, through Zend Framework's Zend_Search_Lucene. Search Lucene API is an extension of the already existing Search API, and allows for seamless integration of the robust searching and indexing capabilities of Lucene.
Chris had this to say about the module he developed, and his experience at DrupalCon: "Search Lucene API was created to address the weaknesses of the core Search module, specifically the lack of scalability and the need for more advanced query syntax."
"Having the opportunity to speak at DrupalCon and exchange ideas with some of the pioneers of alternative search technologies was an unforgettable and productive experience. As community involvement in the module increases, I foresee Search Lucene API maturing into an enterprise-level, full-featured search solution native to Drupal."
