CommonPlaces was originally founded in 1998 providing web solutions to colleges and universities. In 2000, YouthStream Media Networks acquired CommonPlaces naming Ben Bassi President. YouthStream was the nation's leading college campus media marketing services and promotions company, created to provide the most effective and efficient doorway for advertisers and sponsors to the young adult market place. It was comprised of six properties: Network Event Theater, American Passage, Beyond the Wall, Campus Voice, HotStamp Postcards, and Internet Portal, including the www.sixdegrees.com, www.teen.com and www.mybytes.com websites. In 2004, Alloy acquired the assets of YouthStream and Ben Bassi acquired the rights to CommonPlaces.
