Yankee Publishing came to CommonPlaces with a number of development tasks in mind for Almanac.com, the official site of The Old Farmer's Almanac. Though this website was already in place, there were changes and additions Yankee wanted to make to the site that required the expertise of a firm such as CommonPlaces. Firstly, CommonPlaces developed a theme at Yankee's request for the Almanac.com 'Mini-Dashboard' based on Yankee's design. We also created a Featured Content Slideshow for the site that was fully editable through the Drupal CMS. This means that it is easy for the client to add and remove content in the Slideshow over time.

Perhaps the most challenging portion of this project was the custom work CommonPlaces did in the Almanac.com Store, which was built in Ubercart. Because the site sends batches of order data to a fulfillment warehouse, a secure system for storing credit card data was essential. CommonPlaces excels at Web security, and ensured that this process was in fact safe. We also implemented custom order reporting, and developed a system for seamlessly separating orders into separate product classes, while always giving the impression of one order to the user. The shopping cart also required custom messaging that was fully editable by the client, which we implemented. The final product was a shopping cart that the client had much more control over, and built-in reporting functionality that was a better fit to Yankee's needs.
